Sport Lisburn - Get Active, Stay Fit

Irish Football Association Grassroots Development Centre

Over the course of the past few years the IFA, in partnership with Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council's Sport Development Unit, have offered several programmes under the Grassroots Development programme.

The aim of the programme is to offer and promote activities for all abilities both male and female and to encourage the development of football within the Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council area for all.

Skills & Games Centre's

At the Laurelhill Sports Zone we offer a “skills” programme aimed at encouraging boys & girls ages 6-14. These activities which are fun based, centre on the small-sided games ethos and run in parallel with the “games” programme currently operating out of the Hillsborough Village Centre. The “skills” programme runs on Tuesday & Wednesday evenings from 5.00 to 6.00pm at Laurelhill and also at Ballinderry Primary School on Thursday.

Coach Education

As part of the programme we offer courses aimed at developing coaches who are both at the beginning or established stages of coach development but without formal qualifications. These courses include the Grassroots Introduction Award, Level 1 and Level 2 Awards.

Seasonal Soccer Schools

Over a number of years the IFA Soccer Schools have become synonymous with fun and the onset of summer. During both Easter and summer holidays we hold a number of soccer schools both in Lisburn and Moira. Any one wishing to enrol on these activities is advised to book early.

Club Development

Club Development has become an important ingredient in recent months and is available only to those clubs involved in the “games” development. The programme is sponsored by McDonald's, and offers an accreditation package including coach mentoring.

Disability Football

Throughout the year we offer those with a disability the opportunity to take part in football coaching within the Lisburn City Stars. The club meets on Thursday evenings from 4.30pm to 6.30pm at the Lagan Valley LeisurePlex and conducts two sessions at junior and senior level. The club also takes part in a number of competitions throughout the year including the IFA Disability League and Special Olympics.
